Q: How long will it take for my ears to look normal?

A: Operated ears are slightly swollen and discolored for 7- 10 days after surgery, however, the prominence is improved immediately.

Q: Is it painful?

A: There is little or no pain in the post-op period.

Q: When is the best time to have prominent ears corrected?

A: Children usually have corrective surgery when they become school age to avoid the unkind remarks of other children. Little girls frequently delay surgery because they can hide their ears with their hair. Little boys are not so lucky.

Q: What kind of anesthesia is used?

A:Children must have general anesthesia while adults can be done under local anesthesia.

Q: Will insurance cover the procedure?

A: Usually not since they consider this a cosmetic not a functional deformity. Check with your insurance company since some functional deformities may be covered.

Q: How soon can I go back to work?

A: Usually in 3- 4 days.
